sitting with pals waiting for the festival to start!

The festival that comes to you. Where ever you are. Whatever you are doing. You can be here for free.

The Edinburgh ebook festival, now in its second year, is a series of online ‘events’ which runs from 12th – 24th August 2013.  Every day there will be a range of things you can engage with, ranging from residencies, workshops, reviews, short stories and a host of other unique online ‘events’.  We’ll be covering everything from the weather to your soul in our event ‘slots.’ And all for FREE as long as you have an ereader, tablet, ipad, smartphone or trusty old computer/laptop.  Just bookmark the festival site and you’ll be able to keep up to date with the many events where-ever you are and whatever else you are doing. You can follow us on Facebook or tweet to your hearts content #edebookfest

Despite being virtual, behind the scenes real work continues apace. We are currently getting in content and working on the ‘architecture’ of the site.  The programme will not be finalised until the beginning of August but we’ll give you a line up of the main participants on July 12th!  And we can confirm there will be residencies in crime/thriller, mid-list and drama genres as well as horror and advocacy.  There will be workshops in life writing and comedy.  There will be chances to meet authors (virtually) and learn about new e-book releases.

We aim to bring together writer and reader virtually online so that you can experience a host of new writing ‘beyond the margins’ of what you might usually find in the mainstream. The digital revolution is here to stay so book your place at the festival that comes to you. Seating is infinite, dress code what you will and you won’t get turned away if you get there late as all events are archived on our site.

Last year our festival welcomed over 9,000 visitors through the virtual gates. So you’ll be in good company if you mosey on down this year. And yet, it never feels crowded so if you like to be alone, as long as you have wi-fi access you can be in the heart of the action without feeling uncomfortably close to another human being.

Meanwhile if you’re champing at the bit and just can’t wait, you can download a FREE copy of Writer’s Pieces from the 2012 ebook Festival.  (pick up more free stuff while you’re there)piecescover

And until the 30th June you can still have the chance to take part – McStorytellers is running a short story competition – get over to the site and put in your entry forthwith! The chosen stories will both feature at the festival and be part of an ebook. Want to check out the competition? Get your hands on the mcfestival dozenlast years McFestival Dozen for a good read.
